TONY CURTIS & CARY GRANT - OPERATION PETTICOAT IN REAL LIFE - WOMEN SERVING ON U.S. SUBMARINES

The U. S. Navy will be allowing women to serve on submarines. The military used to feel that the confined space of a submarine was not an appropriate working environment. Apparently, that has changed. The real U.S. Navy submarine force will be quite similar to a 1959 movie about a pink submarine. Life imitates art.

I have watched the classic movie Operation Petticoat over 10 times. Tony Curtis & Cary Grant are submariners in a pink submarine, set during the beginning years of WWII. The sub was in the process of repair work & repainting. They didn't have enough primer of one color, they would have enough by mixing red primer and white primer, which makes PINK primer. Before the gray overcoat was put on they had to submerge, because of an enemy attack.

Lt. J.G. Holden (Tony Curtis) is the executive officer, who is a born con man. Whatever the captain & crew need to fix the boat, the executive officer finds a way. He honed his con man skills by being an admiral's aide, prior to his assignment aboard the submarine

The Japanese see the pink sub and they think it is a secret U.S. weapon. The U.S. Naval Intelligence think the enemy is purposely trying to deceive the U.S. Navy brass. They think the Japanese are trying to sneak their own pink submarine through the American blockade. Neither navy knows the truth. The U.S. & the Japanese both want to sink the PINK submarine.

During the hide and seek with the two Naval forces, the bizarre sub picks up several stranded FEMALE nurses. They were on a island that had been attacked & Lt. J.G. Nicholas Holden (Tony Curtis) couldn't leave them behind. Hilarity ensues when six female nurses cohabitate with the enemy (aka MEN.)

The U.S. Navy finds the Pink Sub and starts a depth charge barrage. Lt Cmdr. Sherman (Cary Grant) is the captain of the boat and gathers all of the U.S. Navy issued women's undergarments on his boat, he then orders his crew to place the collected unmentionables in the torpedo tube. One big flush later, the destroyer stops their attack. It works. A HAPPY ENDING!!!!!
