ZORRO TV SPONSOR - 7UP WITH ANIMATED FRESH-UP FREDDIE

Zorro, was a masked crusader, ready willing & able to defend the downtrodden. The show starred Guy Williams, as the dashing masked vigilante, who would use his saber in the same manner that a modern-day graffiti artist would use spray paint. Zorro's tagged mark was everywhere, he even sliced a "Z" into the uniform slacks of a overweight army sergeant, while he was wearing the uniform.

7UP was the sponsor of the popular late 50's TV program. The company hired Leo Burnett advertising agency to create an animated cartoon mascot. They came up with Fresh-Up Freddie, which was drawn by Walt Disney animators. The commercials had the hyperactive Freddie in different roles, such as, a matador, a cook, stagecoach driver & a detective.

I know 7UP doesn't have caffeine, but I would swear that Freddie had been drinking a few Pepsi Colas before the cameras started running. You will be able to see Freddie playing his frenzied role, I have uploaded several TV commercials and comic book ads with the caffeinated mascot of 7UP.  I hope you enjoy the look back into advertising history.
